Romantic, Adventurous & Practical Lightweight Caravan/RV Travel Gifts

When you’re touring SIZE MATTERS!

When you’re touring, size matters. As does weight! Here is a roundup of practical and luxurious gifts for all budgets that any self-respecting traveller will welcome.

For Her

1. Solid Beauty Bars

Save money, space, weight and the planet with solid toiletries!

Ethique Trial Pack

I have long, highlighted hair which I dunk in the sea regularly. I moved over to Ethique solid products eighteen months ago and am not going back! Their Mintasay shampoo bar lathers up beautifully, even in hard water, and the Guardian solid conditioner keeps my locks tangle free. I also love the Gingersnap facial scrub bars but if you’re not sure, what about a trial packs to give the products a try.

2. Scarf with Hidden Pocket

Keep your valuables stashed safely in this ingenious scarf with a hidden, zip pocket to store cash, cards or passports!

3. Towing/Motorhome Course

This is a unisex gift, but I particularly encourage ladies to learn how to tow or drive a large motorhome. It is FUN, but it will also give you confidence, improve road safety and may reduce insurance premiums.

Had I been unable to drive Caravan Kismet, Mark and I would have been stuck in Budapest for six weeks until he was fit to drive after breaking his ribs!

For Him

4. Multi Tool

Tools always come in handy when you’re touring. Lightweight and space-saving, the 5oz (142g) Leatherman Skeletool fits the bill. It’s compact, light, yet strong enough to tackle tough jobs. Its 7-tool combo includes a 420HC Combo Knife, Needlenose & Regular Pliers, Hard-wire Cutters, Wire Cutters, Carabiner/Bottle Opener & Large Bit driver.

Or push the boat out and be ready for anything. Pack 29 tools on your wrist with the Leatherman Tread Multi-Tool Bracelet.

5. AA European Driving Kit

A convenient zip bag containing six items that are required for safe and legal driving in the E.U., plus a Kent roadmap and E.U. driving guide.

An in-car fire extinguisher is also recommended as a requirement for driving in some countries.

For the Caravan/RV Kitchen

6. Insulated Thermal Slow Cooker

No electricity required! You cook up your ingredients, then the insulated slow cooker does the rest. Great for off-grid use, when power is at a premium – and no worries about leaving gas or electricity on if you go out for the day. It keeps cold food cold, but will let you take a hot meal along on a winter picnic! Try the Eco Pot or the Thermos Shuttle Chef, which comes in two sizes (small and large) – and two colours – including orange, my favourite colour!

Entertainment

7. Kindle Paperwhite eReader

I never leave home without it! Read indoors or out, and even in the rain or in the bath, as it’s waterproof. One charge lasts for weeks of use. Access millions of books. You can purchase the eReader itself, with 8 or 32GB of storage, depending on whether you want magazines and audiobooks. The bundle (pictured) includes a smart, leather case and power charger.

If your beloved already has a Kindle and would like access to millions of free books, how about gifting a Kindle Unlimited subscription for £7.99 per month?

Relaxation

8. Portable, Waterproof, Bluetooth Speaker

Ultimate Ears UE ROLL2 Portable Speaker with 9 hours battery life and100ft Bluetooth range, which can stand half an hour in 1m of water!

9. Inflatable Lounger

We love our Inflatable Loungers! They pack up small, and inflate instantly with a waft in the wind!

10. Three-Way Hammock with Mosquito Net

This ingenious hammock can be used as normal, with the mosquito net, or as a ground hammock/emergency tent. Packs into a stuff sack!

Practical

11. Colapz Space Saving Collapsible Accessories

Colapz portable dog shower

Colapz is one of my favourite suppliers. From collapsible cups, water carriers, dog showers, flexi-extendable waste hoses, as the name suggests, all of their products can be collapsed to take up the least amount of space!

12. Onya Bags

I love these stuffable shopping bags, backpacks and re-suable veggie bags. If you want to be sure you always have a bag Onya, these are the biz! Small, lightweight and in beautiful colours and designs, they are great for the planet – not least because the shopping bags I bought nearly 20 years ago are still going strong!

For When You’re Back On The Road!

12a. Great British Adventure Map

So much to do in so small a space – I LOVE my home country!

This map features 2,500 of Britain’s great wild places, mountains, islands, beaches, waterways, viewpoints, eccentric events and long-distance routes, peppered with some randomly inspiring trivia and amusingly quirky touches. Get on the road and discover!

Until You’re Back On The Road…

14. Pebble Art Caravan Picture

If I had room for this, I would definitely get one!

15. Can’t Decide? How About A Gift Card?

OK, if you can’t make up your mind, how about an Amazon gift card? Most of these products are available on Amazon, so let your adventurous souls make up their own mind!

TOW HO HO!

AD (After Dogs) - We retired early to tour Europe in a caravan with four dogs. "To boldly go where no van has gone before". Since 2021, we've been at large in a 24.5-tonne self-converted ex-army truck called The Beast. BC (Before Canines) - we had adventures on every continent other than Antarctica!

  1. Oh wow, I would love that soap (when we’ve walked the Camino’s in Spain and Portugal, minimalism – and compact toiletry bags – are high on our list … and your soap gift idea would be perfect) … maybe I should do a late call to Santa Claus 😉
