Well. Huge thanks to fellow author Sharon Hayhurst for informing me that my latest book, More Manchester Than Mongolia: An Unexpected Road Trip Through Back Road Britain, has been chosen as a FINALIST in the Adult Non Fiction Category of The Wishing Shelf Book Awards!!!!! I was so busy enjoying my travels that I completely missed it.
I am also thrilled that my friend and fellow author, Don Hughes‘ wonderful book, The Mutt for Me, about saving a dog from death row has also been shortlisted.
If you want an endearing read about one man’s special relationship with a very special dog, you will enjoy Don’s book about how he rescued Barbie, a dog no one wanted, from euthanasia. Don doesn’t sugar coat the difficulties he had wtih Barbie. However, what unfolds is a charming tale of growth and understanding on both sides. I read and enjoyed The Mutt for Me when it first came out: you can read my 5* review HERE.
If you’re looking for your next best read, you can see the full list of 2025 finalists in The Wishing Shelf Adult Non Fiction Category HERE and the full list of Wishing Shelf 2025 finalists HERE.
The winners will be announced on 1st April 2026.
However, for li’l’ ole me to get this far in an international book award is enough. Anything else is purely icing and cherries on top!

More Manchester Than Mongolia was awarded a Readers’ Favorite 5* Seal within a month of release.

The Wishing Shelf Book Awards is run by award-winning children’s author Billy Bob Buttons (Edward Trayer). It is recommended by ALLi, the Alliance of Independent Authors, and also supports a very worthy cause, Blind Children UK. If you are an author you can find out how to enter The Wishing Shelf Book Awards HERE. It costs just £59/$75 to enter the awards, or £109/$140 if you want feedback, quotes, and reviews on Bookbub.com and Goodreads.
There is no doubt that recognition in book awards can give some much needed kudos to non celebrity authors like myself. If you are wondering about entering a book award, check out my post on how to select the right awards for your book, how to craft a stunning entry – and how to avoid the many and varied book award scammers out there who are always happy to relieve you of your hard earned cash for no benefit whatsoever!
I am pleased to say that I am working very hard on the sequel, From B to A: Britain to Albania and hope to release it later in 2026.
