Coming up to our fourth week in isolation in Italy and unable to leave the house for over a week, we have had to get creative. Here are a few more ideas to help you while away those hours productively!
In case you missed them, you can also check out 10 Tips to Make Covid-19 Isolation SPLENDID! and “Do More, Feel Better” – Why Not Learn A Language?
1. Help to Rescue the UK’s Old Rainfall Records!
The Rainfall Rescue Project needs help to digitise a couple of hundred years of handwritten records. This will enable climate scientists to use them more easily for analysis of past periods of flooding and drought.
All you need to do is visit the website and transcribe the numbers into boxes. A couple of minutes here and there or an hour to really get to grips with it will all really help.
2. Stream Over 60 Free Outdoor Films
One of my favourite travel websites, The Outbound Collective, has collated some of the best sources of free films from film festivals to dedicated adventure travel channels to give you a vicarious travel fix while you’re stuck indoors.
3. Explore Bucket List Destinations from Home
If the films are not enough for you, why not climb to Everest Base Camp, visit the ancient city of Petra or explore The Great Barrier Reef – all from the comfort of your own home with Google map treks.
4. The 87 Best Travel Books

Only 87? Condé Nast claim that these books, selected by authors, WILL result in ticket bookings! There are a few in there that are already on my reading list and a few that soon will be. But where is Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl? Have they missed out any of your favourites? Let me know in the comments.
5. 9 Free Travel Books to Download

What could be better than the 87 best travel books? How about 9 that are free?! From a crowd-sourced memoir to fiction – but be quick, they might not be free for long.
If you want more travel stories to read, please follow to my blog and you will recieve regular updates on our latest travel plans, some stories from BC (Before Canines) and progress reports regarding the purchase and conversion of our new expedition truck!
Catch up on previous adventures through my books or in the trips, bucket list and ski/surf sections of my blog.

Snowing? In Linconshire? Shhuurely not?!
Maybe you’ve got some of ours by accident. We’re s’posed to get over half a metre in the next couple of days!
Looking forward to seeing you too! I imagine we will come home as soon as we can – at the moment there is no chance. As caravan nomads with all campsitesclosed, even if we could get back to the UK, we quite literally have nowhere to go!
In the meantime, love to you and the family from both of us and The Fab Four. xx

Thank you and the same to you. And thanks for your lovely Virtual Tour of Philip Island! As I mentioned in my comment, I went there as a backpacker in 1996 so it brought back some wonderful memories! If anyone else wants to enjoy it, here is the link. https://outanabout.com/2020/03/29/virtual-walking-on-phillip-island/comment-page-1/#comment-104013
