We’re still ‘in the brick’ in a farmhouse in southern France, where we’re enjoying some down time from travelling, and I am using the break productively as a writers’ retreat.
It’s been very valuable creative time, since I completed my new travel memoir, and the BIG NEWS is that More Manchester Than Mongolia: An Unexpected Road Trip Through Back Road Britain is scheduled for release THIS FRIDAY, 5th December 2025. Manchester has already been awarded a Readers’ Favorite 5* seal and has received nearly two dozen five-star advance reviews.
It is the sequel to Building The Beast: A funny true story of van life, DIY disasters, and one very big truck which chronicles the story of finding and converting our expedition truck, with no experience!
Our truck, The Beast, is having a rest. Being in one place for a few months has been a great opportunity to get on with some maintenance tasks that are difficult to complete while 6 of us (2 human, 4 canine) are living inside.

What I’ve Been Reading
I’m pleased to say that, despite focussing on writing, the down time has given me more time to read. I have started publishing book reviews on my author website, JacquelineLambert.co.uk but until I catch up, here’s what’s been on my Kindle this month. - Tales of a Fly By Night by Val Karren – a delightful collection of short stories and some of the most beautiful travel writing you will ever read. If I could have given this book six stars, I would!
- The Accidental Plus One Down Under by Alison Ripley Cubitt – A warm, witty memoir about a Big Move Down Under – for armchair travellers, those who enjoy quietly humorous anecdotes, stories of resilience, or anyone who’s ever jumped into a big life move only to mutter, “Well… that didn’t go entirely to plan!”
- Bonkers: My Life in Laughs by Jennifer Saunders – funny, warm, and thoroughly entertaining biography. As a long time fan of French and Saunders and her hysterically funny sitcom Absolutely Fabulouls, I’m not surprised I enjoyed this book about Jennifer Saunders’ life.

I expect the Beast is enjoying the holiday and it looks preferable to Kings Park Drive which is ankle deep in soggy leaves and sludge!

Thank you, Janet. We’ve got a few soggy leaves here, but although it’s cold, it’s largely sunny, so we’ve avoided the sludge – with 16 paws, that’s definitely preferable!
I’m so pleased with the writing. I’ve never had such a concentrated time to indulge. I’ve been writing almost full time for the last month! I think I will enjoy it when we move on for Morocco, but I’m still really enjoying having a bath, a washing machine and a flushing loo! 🙂
