  1. I could not leave a comment on the world travelers site. It said I was a robot, so I just leave the comment here instead.

This was a very interesting interview. I also found Romania to be a great place to visit. I remember reading about the Sedlo Pass in Montenegro with The Beast. I can relate to when you say “…..as a British citizen, I can’t believe that I saw New Zealand before I saw Scotland.” I live in Texas, and I’ve been India, Australia, most European countries, central America, but not Mexico, which is next doors. I can certainly agree with you when say this “often the unexpected opportunities yield the best experiences. The joy of travel is discovery, and you never know what you will find on the way. ” I guess that’s real travel.

      1. Yes I remember reading about that. As for us, we went to Bucharest and Transylvania including Brasov, Sibiu, Sighisoara, and we visited castles such as Poienari and Bran and more. It was a two week trip.

    1. That’s pretty much the route we did in Transylvania, although we didn’t visit Bran, it was a bit too commercial and difficult to get to because of roadworks!

Sighisoara is one of my favourite cities. We bought a painting of its 14th century clock tower in Dracula’s birthplace and it’s hanging in pride of place in our truck!

      1. You are right about Bran. It is very commercialized like a little Dracula Disneyland and there is no evidence he ever visited Bran. The Poienari castle was rebuilt by him though and he stayed there. In Sighisoara we stayed at the hotel (Casa Cu Cerb) in the building where Dracula was born.

  2. Great article, we just visited Romania this past fall and we fell in love with it. We also did not get robbed, vandalized or biten by vampires. Although I did have a spider bite on my neck when we were in Sighisoara, so I pretended it was a vampire. 😊

  3. We might have passed… We were in Sighisoara again last November.

I didn’t get bitten by anything, but I did go into Vlad’s birthplace, which was hilarious! It cost 1 euro and it was so worth it. On my way up the stairs, they dropped a cuddly spider on my head, then I saw the vampire dressed as Dracula make haste to hop into his coffin on my way through the door, so I wasn’t really that scared when I got near the coffin and he sat up!

  4. Lovely interview Jackie! You can really say you’ve tried (and survived) a whole lot of scary things! At least, looking back when you’re 100, you don’t have to say “I wish I had done this or that”! You’ve got the t-shirt for them all 😊!
