    1. Thank you, Liesbet!

Yes – I’ve built up quite a launch team now. For the last book, I had around 20 beta readers from the WLM Beta Readers Group and the other 10 from Booksprout. I’m sure it helped the launch to have a good number of reviews posted on Goodreads in the pre-order phase, then a goodly number on Amazon on and around the launch.

Booksprout is easy to manage because it sends out automated remineders, but I need a spreadsheet for the others 🙂

      1. Oh, so you mean those are all ARC readers? I’m confused as the statement was in relation to the editing process, so I thought those 30 people gave you feedback about the story and potential issues, like typos, etc. Do you use beta readers and proofreaders out of that pool as well?

  1. Sorry, it’s all rather confusing terminology! All the beta readers are kind of ARC readers because I ask them to leave an honest review when they’re done if they don’t mind, but they all give me feedback – to a greater or lesser extent depending on the person. From some, I get a full report, from others it’s more of a general ‘feel’, but all useful nevertheless. I do give beta readers a list of questions to stimulate feedback, but stress that completing the questionnaire is entirely discretionary and that they should follow their own system if they prefer.

All beta/ARC readers get an edited and proofread copy to read – but that never stops those stubborn typos getting through – and I was really pleased that one reader was from Manchester and picked up on my getting Salford and Stockport mixed up in my head! Which was quite embarrassing, particularly since I used to have an office in Stockport… It’s because they both begin with S!

So the beta/ARC reads are all part of the editing process.
