Dobrodošli Dogs: Waggy Tails & White Horses – A Trip to the Famous Lipizzaner Stud Farm at Lipica, Slovenia

My first love, before Freddie Mercury; even before Mr Spock; before pretty much anything else that I can remember other than my family – was horses.

For me, today was going to be the fulfilment of a dream. Mark had considered it as a surprise for my 40th Birthday, but it was closed. Last year, we had been forced to bail out of a planned trip due to violent thunderstorms. Third time lucky, we were going to visit the famous stud at Lipica (Lipizza in Italian) where they breed the iconic, white Lipizzaner dressage horses that are used by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Bojana, the owner of Kamp Tura had promised us a proper pitch when someone moved, however we hadn’t realised that it was on a first-come-first-served basis.
