12 Tips on Driving & Towing Safely in Romania

From what we heard, Romanian roads and Romanian drivers have similar, bloodthirsty cult status to that other Romanian Legend, Count Dracula!

However, finding sensible information was not easy… Having spent three months towing a caravan around Romania in 2018, and a few months in a truck in 2023, we can share our insights on coping with the rather singular driving challenges presented by this magical country, which, by the way, you MUST visit!

South Bohemian Rhapsody – Český Krumlov, Czech Republic

We caught glimpses of a magical city of spires and terracotta tiles, almost moated by the River Vltava as she nestled into a horseshoe-shaped bend in the river.

We were driving around the ring road looking for parking and worrying, because we had no Czech currency to pay for it!

Dogs ‘n Dracula – Our Romance with Romania

Over the weekend, we entered a competition with the UK’s ‘Dog Friendly’ Magazine.

On Monday, look what had happened! Dogs n’ Dracula was live on the Dog Friendly Blog – and I have been asked to write a series of articles for the magazine!

This is a taste of things to come on World Wide Walkies – our next adventure. Our plan had been to head south through France to Spain and Portugal, but it was 35ºC in Brittany and 50ºC in Portugal – so we turned left instead. We discovered a country of magic and myth – and gained an addition to the family!

Czeching In to the Czech Republic

We went so far south to avoid the thunderstorms that we fell off the map!

We wanted to make good progress south to avoid the adverse weather, so we got up before 7am (eeek!) to pack up.
